Agent Mode in Word: Edit and Format a Word Document with Copilot
A document that revises itself as you talk it through. This video introduces Agent Mode in Microsoft Word, where Copilot works with you interactively to draft, edit, and format a document through a conversational back-and-forth. See what your business users can hand off and what it means for the time they spend on revisions.
What is Agent Mode in Word?
Agent Mode in Word is a new way to work with Microsoft 365 Copilot directly inside your Word documents. Instead of just asking for one-off suggestions, you describe your goal and Agent Mode actively works alongside you in the document.
It can help you:
- Rewrite sections for clarity or tone
- Add new content based on your instructions
- Adjust formatting to match your style or brand
- Make other targeted edits without leaving Word
Think of it as an AI partner that helps you reimagine how you edit and format documents, while you stay in control of the final result.
What can Agent Mode in Word actually do to my document?
When you describe your goal, Agent Mode in Word can apply changes directly to your document. For example, you can ask it to:
- Rewrite a paragraph to be more concise, formal, or conversational
- Add missing sections, such as an introduction, summary, or FAQ
- Format headings, bullet lists, and text to improve readability
- Refine specific parts, like tightening up a conclusion or improving transitions
Because it works inside Word, you see the edits in context and can accept, adjust, or undo them as needed. This helps teams rethink how they handle routine editing and formatting work.
How can I try Agent Mode in Word today?
Agent Mode in Word is currently available through Microsoft’s Frontier early access program. If your organization participates in this program, you can start trying Agent Mode in Word today as part of your Microsoft 365 Copilot experience.
To learn more about availability and enrollment, visit the Frontier early access information page from Microsoft and check the details with your Microsoft account representative or admin.
